Frequently asked questions

The network helper won't install: "Allow" doesn't work

This was a known conflict with other network filtering apps that we fixed in DataCever v4.0.0 (February 2026).

If you saw this on v3.x, please update to the latest version from the Mac App Store and try again. If you're still seeing this issue make sure to check and disable any other mac firewall apps (e.g. Little Snitch, LuLu, certain VPN clients) Still stuck? Email support@datacever.com with your macOS version and a list of any other firewall/VPN apps installed and we'll get it sorted.

How do I block an app's internet access?

Open DataCever, click any running app in the list, and flip the Allow internet toggle off. The block takes effect immediately.

How do I set a data quota for an app?

Open DataCever → click an app → choose Set quota → pick your limit per session. Once the app hits the quota, DataCever blocks its internet automatically until the next session.

Does DataCever send my network data anywhere?

No. All monitoring and blocking is done on your Mac. We don't run any servers that see your network traffic, and we never have. Your per-app usage totals, your allowlist, and your quotas all stay on your device.

We do use anonymous analytics for crashes, macOS version distribution, and feature interactions so we can fix bugs and prioritise improvements. When you block, allow, or set a quota on a specific app, the name of that app is included as a parameter on the event — so we can see which apps people most want to control — but never how much data it used, what it connected to, or anything personally identifying.

See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds for Mac App Store apps go through Apple directly, not us. The fastest path:

reportaproblem.apple.com → sign in → find DataCever → request a refund.

If your issue is something we can fix, email us first; we may be able to resolve it without you losing the purchase.

How do I uninstall DataCever cleanly?

Quit DataCever, then drag it from /Applications to the Trash. To also remove the network helper and any cached app data, open System Settings → Network → Filters (or System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions on newer macOS) and remove any DataCever entry.

What macOS versions are supported?

DataCever requires macOS 10.15.4 (Catalina) or later. We test on the current and previous major macOS versions. On older systems, please update from the Mac App Store to the latest DataCever release; older DataCever versions on older macOS may have known limitations we've since fixed.

I have a feature request

We'd love to hear it. Email support@datacever.com with the subject "Feature request" and describe what you'd like to see. Recent features that started as user requests: per-app quotas, hourly usage breakdown, and the v4.0 redesign.

Every email we get is read by a human.
